When it comes to any work that needs to be done in your home, it’s important that you have the right people on the job. This is especially true when it comes to the heating and cooling of your home. Your HVAC system not only determines how comfortable you feel at home, but often the quality of your indoor air which plays into the health of your family. Whether it’s an installation, an inspection, or repairs, you want to ensure that the people you hire to do your HVAC work care about their job and will do it thoroughly.
But with so many HVAC companies out there, how do you find the right contractor?
Read Reviews
One of the first things you want to do as you shop for a HVAC contractor is to see what other customers have said of them in the past. Google Reviews is usually a good go-to place. Yelp is popular as well, but less successful than Google at keeping fake reviews out, so it should be taken with a grain of salt. If the contractor has a Facebook page, they may allow reviews. Nextdoor is a great review website, and they often include reviews of heating and cooling professionals. They may also have links to professional reviews listed on their website. If their reviews overwhelmingly speak to shoddy work or poor customer service, that should be a red flag for you.
Make Sure They’re Licensed
Make sure that the contractor you hire is licensed by the state of Texas to perform the work you need. While licenses are required of HVAC contractors, some shadier companies might try to get away with working without the proper licensing. These companies count on customers who don’t do their research first, so make sure you’re not one of them. An HVAC contractor’s license shows that the contractor you’re going to hire is an expert in their field and that they’ve been highly trained. You can also check their website for certifications and awards and what insurance they have. It’s a good idea for anyone who does any work in your home to be insured, so there are no disputes in the case of an accident.
Get an Estimate
Finally, get an estimate from all the companies that you’re considering. Beware of a company that’s willing to give you an estimate over the phone before coming out and taking a look at the HVAC system. You should also keep in mind that the lowest estimate might not necessarily mean that they’re the best company. Sometimes a low estimate means cheap quality of work. Again, in this case it helps to look at the reviews. If customers reported that the quality of work wasn’t very thorough or they constantly had to have it repaired, it may be worth it to put out a little more money for a more trustworthy company.
